3 Ways to Make Your Salon More Eco Friendly

Are you looking to become more eco-friendly in your salon? Making your business sustainable is all the rage. There are some basic steps you can take so you are doing your bit for the environment. Sustainability has become a responsibility for every individual and business. With a sustainable salon you will encourage green living – and save some money too. If you aren’t sure where to start, here are 3 easy ways to begin.

1. Go Digital

Get rid of paper wherever you can. Use an online booking system instead of appointment cards. This is a far more eco-efficient way to take bookings. Send receipts by email instead of printing them out. Direct clients to your website for treatment and price lists. Send text messages to notify clients of appointments. Suggest clients take photos on their phones of your menu and price list. Or have a barcode they can scan which takes them to your website and price list. Much more eco-friendly than printing out sheets and sheets of paper.

2. Make Simple Eco Friendly Swaps

Get rid of plastics and opt for glass bowls and bottles. Switch out your lightbulbs for energy saving bulbs. Invest in ethical or biodegradable perishables. You can start with cotton wool and tissues. Ban single-use plastics. Use paper cups instead of plastic water bottles and ditch cotton buds.  Provide recycling bins throughout your salon to encourage your clients to recycle too. Invest in LED light bulbs. They may seem costly at first but they last 25x longer than a regular light bulb. They also use 75% less energy! Eco friendly and budget friendly.

3. Water Usage

Make sure you are turning off the taps when they’re not necessary. Never leave them running if you’re applying treatments. If doing laundry (washing towels) don’t do multiple loads per day. Laundry loads are unavoidable. Do less frequent, bigger loads to make them more eco friendly. Also consider introducing single-use biodegradable materials. These are entirely compostable and reduce laundry costs. Only do laundry when necessary to conserve money and energy.

To make your salon reflect your eco ethos consider the décor. If you want to show your green side, consider redecorating to reflect your core values. Make sure everything is recyclable, eco-friendly – and looks clean and beautiful. Don’t forget – you’re selling the salon experience too!
