What causes loose skin

What causes loose skin and what can we do about it?

What causes loose skin? Loose skin or ‘skin laxity’ has a number of causes that can exaggerate or worsen the appearance of the skin. The skin’s strength is due to a number of factors including collagen and elastin fibres. As we age these begin to break down and fragment and this causes our skin to loosen and lose its ‘plumpness’. It is not only ageing that can cause our skin to sag it can be the result of diet, weight loss or genetics.

Ways to combat sagging skin

  • Avoid losing or gaining lots of weight very quickly
  • Stop smoking
  • Avoid eating a sugary diet
  • Wear sunscreen daily to avoid skin damage
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Drink lots of water

Tightens and tones

As skin ages, the fibres within the dermal layers start to lose their uniform structure and become more irregular and sparse. This causes fine lines and wrinkles to form and skin loses its youthful appearance. Radio Frequency clients can look forward to increased muscle tone, a more defined jawline and diminished fine lines caused by the natural tightening effect from a realignment of the tissues.

Tightening of the elastin fibres occurs immediately, giving an instant visible result. Over the medium term, clients benefit from increased collagen production for up to 3 months after the course has been completed. Long term, results can last up to 2 years
