What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is an exfoliating treatment first developed in Italy in the 1980s. The SkinBase microdermabrasion treatment has won Best Advanced Treatment at the National Beauty Awards 2018 & 2019 and it has become an increasingly popular treatment for skin rejuvenation thanks to the fantastic results it achieves for a number of skin concerns. The procedure is simple, quick, non-invasive and painless, with no downtime, so a perfect choice for regular treatment.
How does it work?
During a SkinBase Microdermabrasion (MD) facial a stream of tiny crystals gently exfoliate the skin. The crystals flow through a small hole in the hand piece and over the skin, sloughing away old skin cells, unblocking pores and removing any dirt and grime from the skin surface. The SkinBase microdermabrasion machine works using vacuum pressure, the debris (along with the used crystals) are drawn away by the vacuum and collect in a sealed reservoir to be safely disposed of. The vacuum action also works to stimulate the microcirculation within the skin, which promotes collagen production. Collagen is a really important substance that helps make the skin plump and firm. By helping to increase the skin’ collagen levels Microdermabrasion helps to achieve a smoother and less wrinkled complexion.
Why should clients have Microdermabrasion?
As you know, the skin naturally sloughs away some dead cells, but Microdermabrasion helps by using exfoliating crystals to gently remove the dead skin cells trapped in our pores. Frequent exfoliation helps to prevent this build-up of dead skin cells. Regular treatments also stimulate collagen to improve the skin’s texture and plumpness.
How regularly can clients have microdermabrasion?
The optimum amount of time between microdermabrasion treatments is 7-10 days. In fact, we recommend that you stick within this timeframe to achieve the best results during a course of treatments. This allows the skin time to recover but is also close enough together if you are working to improve skin issues. You can work deeper on the skin with each treatment; but safely and effectively without injury to the skin. Skin concerns like pigmentation, acne, acne scarring, and uneven skin tone all need a consistent and regular treatment plan to achieve the best results.
Course of Facials
No matter how much clients look after their skin, it will still be adversely affected by the environment and the ageing process. A course of Microdermabrasion facials can help to repair damage that has occurred over the years. If the client has skin concerns such as fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone, or mild outbreaks of spots then a course of 6-8 is recommended.
